On 25 February 2016, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised the 1^st MFA CEO Forum. Initiated by Permanent Secretary Apichart Chinwanno, the MFA CEO Forum serves as an exclusive platform for foreign Ambassadors in Bangkok to directly get acquainted with leading members of the Thai private sector and learn firsthand of their potential.

         The Forum demonstrates an important role of diplomacy in driving the country’s economy and the Ministry of Foreign Affair’s role among the key economic agencies in underscoring Thailand’s economic potential as a basis for economic engagement with foreign countries. The Forum also provides an opportunity to showcase the Thai private sector’s contribution to global sustainable development.  

         Mr. Panyarak Poolthup, Deputy Permanent Secretary gave an opening address highlighting the potential of Thai businesses, followed by keynote presentation by Mr. Roongrote Rangsiyopash, who recently assumed the position of the CEO of SCG Pcl. Mr. Rangsiyopash took the opportunity to presented the portfolio of the company and its vision, as well as SCG’s social commitment as a responsible Thai company when expanding its business abroad. This commitment has been essential to SCG’s strong presence in the ASEAN region and beyond.

         The event was attended by representatives from over 50 embassies, almost 40 of whom were of ambassadorial rank. After the talk, the attendees had a lively discussion on the constructive role and commitment of the private sector towards sustainability and inclusiveness, while pursuing economic growth. Representatives from embassies have expressed their interest in the potential of Thai companies and are willing to explore further cooperation in the future.

         The diplomatic community plays an important role as an information channel for foreign government to Thailand. In this regard, the Forum represent an important opportunity for Thai companies to connect and expand their opportunity in various potential market and also enhance the confidence of international community toward Thailand’s strong economic foundation.

         The Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to organise the MFA CEO Forum on a monthly basis to underscore Thailand’s economic potential in the global market to the international community.
