Bilateral Meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation

On 26 February 2016, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudvinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with H.E. Mr. Hor Namhong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat held in Vientiane on 26-27 February 2016.

Both sides discussed the Thailand-Cambodia cooperation in international arena such as Thailand’s candidature to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and Cambodia’s candidature to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). They also touched upon regional cooperation frameworks including Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) and Thailand’s hosting of the 14th Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Ministerial Meeting during 8 – 10 March 2016.

The Thai Foreign Minister also mentioned the “G-77 Bangkok Roundtable on Sufficiency Economy: An Approach to Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals” to be held in Thailand on 28 – 29 February 2016, to which representatives from the G-77 countries, including Cambodia, have been invited. The Roundtable is the first G-77 meeting held in Thailand since the country’s assumption of the Group’s Chairmanship. It will also serve as a platform for member countries to exchange opinions on the development applications of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy.

The Thai Foreign Minister welcomed the excellent bilateral ties while expressing deep appreciation for the arrangements and hospitality extended to H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn during the Royal Visit to Cambodia between 22 – 24 February 2016, which underscored the strong friendship and overall relations between the two countries.
