On 22 October 2016, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Vancouver, led by Ms. Sutthiluck Sa-ngarmangkang, Consul-General of Thailand, organized a Buddhist merit-making ceremony to pay tribute to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej at the conference room, British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Vancouver, British Columbia. The ceremony was participated by more than 400 members of Thai community and their families in Western Canada.

               The religious ceremony, which was conducted by Buddhist monks in Vancouver and nearby cities, began with the Buddhist pray, meditation and presentation of offerings to the monks as merit making for His Majesty the King.

                Furthermore, the Consul-General, members of the Thai community as well as their families also paid homage to His Majesty the King by lighting the candles and observing moment of silence for 9 minutes in remembrance of His Majesty King Rama IX’s tireless dedication to the improvement of the people’s livelihood and the sustainable development of the nation. During this ceremony, the participants also vowed to follow His Majesty’s advices and guidance in the conduct of their respective professions and everyday life with the common view to benefit the nation, society as well as themselves.

                On this occasion, the Royal Thai Consulate-General also opened condolence books for the people to sign and express their loyalty and gratitude to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. In addition, the Royal Thai Consulate-General would also organize a Buddhist merit-making ceremony in Vancouver for the 50th day and the 100th day of the mourning periods on the passing of His Majesty the King.
