H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand is scheduled to attend the 37th Session of the Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva, Swiss Confederation, on 28 February 2018. The Foreign Minister will deliver statements at the High-level Segment of the 37th Session of the HRC and at the High-level meeting on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the United Nations Office at Geneva.

The Minister will also meet with the UNHCR to exchange views on the issues of mutual interest including displaced persons from Myanmar along Thai-Myanmar border, urban cases in Thailand, and situation in Rakhine State, as well as to follow up and further strengthen cooperation with the UNHCR.

The Minister’s participation in the 37th Session of the HRC is an opportunity for Thailand to reiterate its commitment to promote and protect human rights at the national, regional, and international levels. Moreover, Thailand will take this opportunity to highlight recent developments such as the announcement of the “National Agenda: Human Rights as a Driving Force of Thailand 4.0 towards Sustainable Development (2018 – 2019)”, the upcoming visit of the Working Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises during 26 March - 4 April 2018, and significant government policies such as policies to support people in vulnerable situations, measures to address inequality and ensuring access to justice for all. The Human Rights Council will also celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a key human rights instrument which Thailand was among the first 48 states to adopt.
