H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, will pay a visit to Indonesia during 5 - 7 July 2018 to co-chair the 9th Meeting of the Joint Commission (JC) between Thailand and Indonesia in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, at the invitation of H.E. Mrs. Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia. The Meeting will be attended by representatives of relevant government agencies of both countries.
The Joint Commission between Thailand and Indonesia is an important bilateral mechanism in promoting relations between the two countries in all dimensions, namely (1) political and security (2) legal and consular(3) economic, trade, investment and tourism (4) social and culture (5) diplomatic privileges and immunities and (6) regional and multilateralcooperation.
The 9th JC Meeting will review and follow-up on the implementation of the outcomes of the 8th JC Meeting in Bangkok in 2013 and discuss ways and means to further promote cooperation in areas of mutual interest, such as intensifying cooperation and sharing intelligence and information on counter-terrorism and extremism, combating transnational crimes, enhancing trade, investment and tourism, combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and wildlife conservation as well as promoting people-to-people relations and cooperation at regional level and in multilateral fora.
Thailand and Indonesia are two largest economies in ASEAN. Indonesia is Thailand’s fifth trading partner, with a trade volume of USD 16 billion in 2017. Thailand is the 12th largest investor of Indonesia at the investment value of USD 338 million while Indonesia is the 10th largest investor in Thailand at a value of USD 141 million. In 2017, tourist arrivals from Indonesia to Thailand reached 534,764 whereas 98,289 Thai travelers visited Indonesia. An increasing number of direct flights between the two countries has considerably facilitated tourism between Thailand and Indonesia.
