On 20 September 2018, The Honourable Glyn T. Davies, Ambassador of the United States of America to Thailand, paid a farewell call on H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, upon the completion of his tenure. Both sides discussed Thai – U.S. bilateral relations, marking its 185th anniversary this year and covering a broad range of areas of cooperation. Bilateral relations between Thailand and the United States have steadily gained momentum since H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, paid an official visit to the United States in late 2017.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs commended Ambassador Davies for his invaluable support and contribution to advancing Thai – U.S. bilateral relations, particularly in facilitating a prompt and timely dispatch of assistance from the U.S. Indo – Pacific Command in the search and rescue operation of the Thai youth soccer team at Tham Luang Cave in Chiang Rai province. The Ambassador was also recognized for his instrumental role in apprising the State Department of the tangible progress made by the Royal Thai Government in the fight against human trafficking, which resulted in Thailand’s ranking being upgraded to Tier 2 in the State Department’s 2018 Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP report).

Ambassador Davies thanked the Royal Thai Government, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for the cooperation and assistance extended to him and the Embassy of the United States of America in Bangkok throughout his tour of duty. The Ambassador believed that given its abundant natural resources and human capital as well as its strong economic fundamentals, Thailand is poised to make more economic achievements, particularly after the general elections in Thailand next year.

Thailand and the United States of America have longstanding close and cordial ties as treaty allies and continue to have close bilateral cooperation encompassing areas such as military, security, economic, health and law enforcement.
