Advisor to Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand meets with President of Japan International Cooperation Agency

On 17 October 2025, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, received and met with Mr. Tanaka Akihiko, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
 
Both sides discussed strengthening Thailand - JICA cooperation, which has been ongoing for over 70 years and highlightes cooperation to overcome shared common challenges such as aging society, environmental and climate change, disaster prevention and disaster relief, as well as cooperation to enhance Thailand’s capacity and prepare for the future economy, which are based on human resource development for new technologies and industries (KOSEN), trilateral cooperation for third countries, synchrotron technology, as well as Thailand’s contribution to the development of rural areas in Japan through its Friends From Thailand (FFT) programme, strengthening people-to-people relations between the two countries.
 
They also exchanged views on the Thailand - Cambodia border situation. The Advisor emphasized the importance of strictly adhering to the terms of the ceasefire agreement and making concrete progress on issues such as the withdrawal of heavy weaponry from border areas, joint demining efforts, combatting transnational crime and effectively managing the border areas. These are key factors that will lead to easing border tensions and restoring Thailand - Cambodia relations. Japan supports both Thailand and Cambodia to find a peaceful solution through dialogue conducted under bilateral mechanisms.
