On 2 June 2026, H.E. Mr. Prapan Disyatat, Ambassador of Thailand to Indonesia, in his capacity as Thailand’s Senior Official, participated in the Mekong - U.S. Partnership (MUSP) Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) at the Embassy of the United States of America to Indonesia.

Thailand underscored the importance of cooperation in addressing several pressing common challenges facing the subregion, namely: (1) water resources and water quality management, including contamination in the Mekong River resulting from mining activities; (2) strengthening economic security, particularly energy security and food security; (3) digital transformation and artificial intelligence; and, (4) combating transnational crime, addressing online scam operations, and enhancing the capacity of law enforcement officials. Thailand also attached importance to promoting cooperation in areas where Thailand and the U.S. can pursue mutually beneficial collaboration, particularly in the field of critical minerals. Thailand underscored the role of the Ayeyawady - Chao Phraya- Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) as a “strategic connector” capable of linking and coordinating cooperation between the Mekong countries and various cooperation frameworks, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of development efforts in the subregion.

The meeting reaffirmed member countries’ commitment to advancing practical cooperation for the sustainable development of the Mekong subregion. They also expressed their shared commitment to drafting the new MUSP Plan of Action within this year.
