Ambassador of the Thailand visited the University of Melbourne  

and Medical Research and Public Health Institutes  

On 3-4 February 2021, H.E. Ms Busadee Santipitaks, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand, visited the University of Melbourne, Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity and Burnet Institute. 

  1. Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity : On 4 February 2021, Ambassador Busadee met with Dr. Mike Catton, Deputy Director and Dr. Katherine Gibney, infectious disease physician, and visited the institute’s advanced laboratories. Both sides discussed the current COVID-19 situation and possible ways to collaborate in areas of medical research and infectious disease management.  
  2. University of Melbourne : On 4 February 2021, Ambassador Busadee met with Professor Duncan Maskell, Vice-Chancellor and Dr. Michael Wesley, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International).  The University of Melbourne presently hosts around 70 Thai students mostly enrolled in the fields of Science, Technolgy and Medicine in which the University excels. Both sides discussed bilateral relations, current issues, the situation of COVID-19, as well as opportunities to enhance collaboration in the fields of public health and medical research. 

3) Burnet Institute : On 5 February 2021, Ambassador Busadee met with Mr. Paul Rathbone, Executive General Manager and Dr. Heidi Drummer, Program Director for Disease Elimination and visited the institute’s cutting-edge laboratories which focuses on creating HIV and Hepatitis C vaccines.   Both sides exchanged views on the current COVID-19 situation and explored possibilities to cooperate in medical and emerging disease research as well as disease preparedness.
