Permanent Secretary discussed with Ambassador of Malaysia to Thailand ways to advance Thailand - Malaysia bilateral cooperation on border connectivity, energy, labour, COVID-19 response and exchanged views on the regional situation and the roles of ASEAN.

On 30 March 2021, His Excellency Dato’ Jojie Samuel, Ambassador of Malaysia to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

Both sides expressed appreciation for the assistance rendered to their respective nationals amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and discussed ways to maintain momentum in the bilateral relations. Both sides acknowledged the importance of achieving greater economic development through cross-border connectivity projects and cooperation in key issues such as security, energy and labour. The Permanent Secretary also reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to host the 14th Meeting of the Thailand - Malaysia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JC) and the 5th Ministerial Meeting of the Thailand - Malaysia Committee on Joint Development Strategy for Border Areas (JDS). Malaysia will subsequently host the Annual Consultation between the two Prime Ministers. In addition, the two sides exchanged views on regional situation and the roles of ASEAN.
