On 21 March 2022, H.E. Mr. Moon Seoung-hyun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, on the occasion of the Ambassador’s assumption of duty.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the close and comprehensive relations between Thailand and the ROK and the marking of the 10th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries in 2022. On this occasion, a Joint Action Plan will be drafted to set direction in steering bilateral relations in the next five years (2022-2027). Both sides also agreed to promote economic cooperation, trade and investment between Thailand and the ROK. In this regard, the Thai side invited Korean investors to expand investment in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) in areas of ROK’s potential, including smart cities. Moreover, both sides welcomed the convening of the 5th Consular Consultation on 25 March 2022 in Bangkok.

During the meeting, Permanent Secretary Thani and Ambassador Moon exchanged views on regional and international situations of mutual interests. The Thai side welcomes the ROK’s constructive roles in sub-regional and regional cooperation frameworks such as Mekong-ROK, Ayeyawady – Chao Phraya Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) and ASEAN-ROK. The Thai side also looked forward to welcoming the new President of the ROK to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Week in Bangkok in November this year.
