On 15 September 2026, H.E. Mrs. Chulamanee Chartsuwan, Thai Governor to the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), delivered opening remarks to media representatives from 20 member countries of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) at the opening ceremony of the 15th ASEF Journalists Seminar, held at the Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai.

The Thai Governor welcomed the participants and emphasised the role of the media in promoting greater understanding between the people of Asia and Europe. She expressed the hope that the seminar would contribute to strengthening people-to-people relations between the two regions. Meanwhile, Ms. Beata Stoczyńska, Executive Director of ASEF, noted that the seminar aims to strengthen journalists’ ability to cope with the volatility facing the media industry today, including geopolitical tensions, technological changes and the proliferation of information. She also emphasised the important role of the media in promoting greater understanding between Europe and Asia.

After the opening ceremony, the Thai Governor held discussions with the Executive Director of ASEF. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to promoting people-to-people relations between Europe and Asia, while exchanging views on cooperation between Thailand and ASEF, including hosting the ASEF LinkUp – Asia-Europe Cultural Diplomacy in 2027.

The 15th ASEF Journalists Seminar is held from 14 to 17 September 2026 in Bangkok under the theme “Journalistic Resilience in a Volatile World.” First organised in 1998, the Seminar provides a platform for journalists from Asia and Europe to exchange perspectives and experiences. This year marks the first time that Thailand has hosted the ASEF Journalists Seminar.
