On 29 September 2022, Thailand’s representatives to the ASEAN Women for Peace Registry (AWPR) attended the AWPR Strategic Planning Workshop in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to discuss future plans for the AWPR and ways in promoting the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in the region.

Mrs. Nongnuth Petcharatana, former Ambassador and Executive of the Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs, Asst. Prof. Amporn Marddent, Faculty of Sociology and Anthropology, Thammasat University, and Dr. Suphatmet Yunyasit, Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Mahidol University, highlighted the need for AWPR to be able to address new challenges to sustaining peace such as climate change and natural disasters that put the lives of ASEAN people at risk. They also stressed the importance of strengthening the role of women as a catalyst for economic development in the promotion of sustainable peace and development.

The AWPR was established under the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR) as a pool of women experts in peace processes and reconciliation. The workshop was held by the ASEAN-IPR in partnership with Canada, the Republic of Korea, and UN Women.
