On 16 October 2026, Ms. Jitvipa Benjasil, Chargé d' affairs, a.i. (CDA), Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra, attended a working lunch on the occassion of Word Food Day, hosted by Mr. Ernesto Céspedes, Ambassador of Mexico to Australia, and with the participation and presentation by Dr Bram Cobaerts, Director-General of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), at Ambassador of Mexico's Residence.
Participants exchanged views on the challenges from El Nino phenomenon and the impact on agrifood system, the development of corn and wheat resilient and highly tolerate to drought and temperature, the efforts to diversity and develop new food plants, adaptation, and the burning of farm land and air pollution. They also agreed on the need to explore possibility for more coordination and cooperation in addressing these challenges.
