On 8 May 2026, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Michaela Friberg-Storey, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand, co-presided the Launch Ceremony for the Commemorative Logo of the 80th Anniversary of Thailand’s Membership in the United Nations. Also in attendance were Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, Mrs. Sudruetai Lertkasem, Director-General of the Government Public Relations Department, and Ms. Atchara Seriputra, Vice President of the United Nations Association of Thailand.

The Co-Chairs highlighted the significance of Thailand’s accession to the United Nations on 15 December 1946. The 80th anniversary of Thailand’s member in the United Nations serves as a major milestone, reflecting on the country’s steadfast commitment as a responsible and constructive member of the international community. This special occasion also provides a pivotal opportunity to reaffirm Thailand’s resolve to collaborate with the United Nations in addressing contemporary global challenges and ensuring a sustainable future for successive generations.

The logo design competition was organized to encourage public engagement and enhance awareness among Thai youth and the general public regarding multilateral diplomacy and Thailand’s role within the United Nations. The winner of the logo design competition is Ms. Chamarthorn Ongsampop, a 17-year-old student from Princess Chulabhorn Science High School Pathum Thani. The First Runner-up is Mr. Thanawin Maneewong and Second Runner-up is Mr. Raksak Nawapornpakdee. The winning design seamlessly integrates the number “80” with the characteristics of the Thai elephant, the olive branches, the Thai national flag, and the United Nations emblem, symbolizing the robust bonds and the active cooperation between Thailand and the United Nations over the past 80 years.
