Deputy Director-General of the International Organizations Department delivers opening remarks at the Commemoration of the International Day of Non-Violence

On 2 October 2025, Mr. Phuchphop Mongkolnavin, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered an opening remarks and attended the commemoration of the International Day of Non-Violence at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC), Bangkok. The event was organized by the Embassy of India and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

The Deputy Director-General highlighted that Thailand as a peace-loving nation and a promoter of peace attaches importance to the principle of non-violence. Thailand co-sponsored the UN General Assembly Resolution 61/271 in 2007, which proclaims 2 October of every year as the International Day of Non-Violence. He further emphasized that non-violence is not only a moral principle but also a practical approach to help build a peaceful, safe, harmonious and sustainable world. He also highlighted Thailand’s commitment to the principle of non-violence which is reflected in both Thailand’s domestic and foreign policies. Thailand places importance on fostering international cooperation, mutual respect, peaceful dispute setllement, as well as promoting peace and harmony in the region.

The 2nd of October marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Thailand’s participation in the International Day of Non-Violence this year reflects the country’s strong commitment to working with the international community to promote peace, understanding, and mutual respect.
