On 14 May 2026, Mrs. Salinee Phonprapai, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs, together with H.E. Mr. Mark Gooding, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Thailand, and Mr. Joachim Pohl, Head of the International Investment Governance Unit of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), jointly delivered opening remarks at a workshop titled “Modern Investment Security Policies for Thailand.” The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Board of Investment of Thailand, the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Thailand, and the OECD, with approximately 50 representatives from 17 relevant Thai agencies in participation.

The Deputy Director-General underscored Thailand’s open economic and investment policies, which at the same time places increasing importance on security considerations in order to support sustainable industrial development, strengthen the capabilities of Thai entrepreneurs, and effectively integrate Thailand’s local economy into global supply chains.

The workshop aimed to enhance Thailand’s understanding of economic and investment security and to examine the experiences and best practices of OECD member countries through insights shared by experts from the United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan. Accession to the OECD is a national agenda item for Thailand, which is currently undergoing technical assessments by 25 OECD committees, including the Investment Committee, in order to align its standards and practices with those of the OECD.
