On 26 May 2025, Ms. Somrudee Pupornanek, Deputy Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, met with Mr. Mikael Belluyan, Director of the Integration Development Department, Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), to discuss the potential for trade cooperation between Thailand and Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Member States, including the launching of the Thailand–EAEU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. The Deputy Director-General highlighted Thailand’s dynamic cooperation with all five EAEU Members and sought the EEC’s support for the initiative. In this regard, Mr. Belluyan expressed a positive view on enhancing future cooperation with Thailand.
On that same day, the Deputy Director-General met with Ms. Ekaterina Bakeeva, Deputy Director-General of the Third Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. Both sides welcomed the increasing dynamism in Thailand–Russia relations, as reflected by the frequent exchanges of high-level visits. Ms. Bakeeva was positive with Thailand’s request for Russia’s support on the launching of the Thailand–EAEU FTA and Thailand’s aspiration for becoming a full member of BRICS. They also exchanged views on the situations in Ukraine and Myanmar.
Additionally, the Deputy Director-General joined a roundtable discussion with the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) experts led by Dr. Ekaterina Koldunova. Both sides exchanged views on key regional issues, including developments in Myanmar and Ukraine as well as the evolving relations between Russia and ASEAN Member States.
