On 4 March 2024, H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs held a bilateral meeting with Senator The Honourable Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia during the Special Summit to Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations, Melbourne, Australia, This is the second bilateral meeting between the two ministers, following an introductory meeting at the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), New York.

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed the close ties between Thailand - Australia. The Thai side welcomed H.E. General the Honourable David Hurley, Governor-General of Australia and H.E. Mrs. Linda Hurley on their Official Visit to Thailand on 13-17 February 2024. Both sides also agreed to continue the momentum of the constructive cooperation which Thailand and Australia share as Strategic Partners, including economic cooperation. They noted that the Thailand - Australia Free Trade Agreement is approaching its 20th anniversary next year.

In this regard, they also discussed potential cooperation in the business sectors, in which both Thailand and Australia are keen on exchanging best practices such as energy transition, electric vehicles, and precision agriculture.

Furthermore, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen other areas of cooperation, such as cooperation in combating human trafficking and cyber security, cooperation for development and cooperation in the Mekong subregional and ASEAN frameworks. Agricultural labour mobility and the Australian Government's initiative to introduce the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard were also discussed.

Both sides also exchanged views on regional development, especially, the situation in Myanmar and ASEAN’s role to help support peace and stability in Myanmar, especially Thailand's humanitarian initiative to scale up assistance to the Myanmar people along the Thai-Myanmar Border.

Their meeting underscores the commitment of Thailand and Australia to promote and maintain the dynamic of the close relationship, with a view to achieving prosperity, peace, and stability at the bilateral, regional, and global levels.
