On 17 July 2025, Mr. Nikorndej Balankura, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcomed Mr. Tran Trong Dung, Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association and the President of the Thai Journalists Association.
Both sides emphasized cordial Thailand - Vietnam relations, particularly among the media of both countries that have regularly exchanged visits. They also exchanged views on the role of the media in supporting bilateral cooperation, which aligns with the enhancement of Thailand - Vietnam relations to a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership". They also expressed readiness to promote activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two sides in 2026, noting the high number of tourists which reached 1.5 million last year.
The Vice President expressed appreciation to the Thai side for the constant provision of information to the Vietnamese media on Thailand's economy, society, and culture, which is beneficial for promoting an even better understanding of Thailand among the Vietnamese people. The Director-General reaffirmed the Thai side’s readiness to support activities of the media from both countries, as well as emphasized the role of journalists in promoting mutual understanding among the people and the importance of cooperation between the media and government agencies to fact check infomation amidst current challenges posed by technology that could lead to the dissemination of distorted information or fake news.
