On 6 September 2026, Mrs. Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, and H.E. Mr. Mohammad Abu Wandi, Director of Asia, Oceania and Africa Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of a Political Consultations Mechanism between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. They also co-chaired the First Round of the Thailand-Jordan Political Consultations (PC) in Amman, Jordan thereafter. The convening of this meeting serves as part of celebrations commemorating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2026.

Both sides also agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the economic sector. This includes promoting trade between the two countries by organizing a Business Forum together with business matching activities, enhancing cooperation in key areas such as agriculture (fertilisers and food) and two-way tourism, and serving as gateways to wider markets. Furthermore, they discussed cooperation within multilateral frameworks and exchanged views on regional developments in Asia and the Middle East.

During this visit, the Director-General chaired the Third Career Connect event, which is aimed to provide advice related to career opportunities for Thai students in the Middle East. In addition, the Director-General held discussions with Ms. Antonia Marie De Meo, Deputy Commissioner-General for Operational Support of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). During this meeting, Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the two-State solution and expressed its readiness to continue its support for UNRWA’s operations. In addition, the Director-General also met with importers of Thai products in Jordan to discuss ways to promote the popularity of and greater access to Thai products in Jordan.
