On 6 November 2025, Mrs. Hataya Khusakul, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, co-chaired the 6th Meeting of Thailand - Mexico Political Consultations with Mr. Fernando González Saiffe, Director-General for Asia-Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico. Also in attendance were Ms. Bacharee Puengpak, Deputy Director-General, Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, and H.E. Mrs. Ilse Lilian Ferrer Silva, Ambassador of Mexico to Thailand.

The meeting was held as one of the activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Mexico. Both sides discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation in various areas, including politics, trade and investment, especially business opportunities and trade facilitation, tourism, culture, education, consular affairs, and people-to-people relations, as well as technical and multilateral cooperation. They conferred on ways to promote high-level exchanges, economic cooperation and to deepen people-to-people ties through tourism, education, cultural exchanges, cuisine, music, Muay Thai, and entertainment. Both sides plan to expedite negotiations on agreements to advance cooperation plans in various areas, such as diplomatic training, the new Thailand - Mexico Development Cooperation Work Plan (2025–2027) and knowledge sharing on World Heritage and artifact repatriation. They will also strengthen cooperation on ocean protection and conservation, restoration, and the sustainable use of biodiversity. In addition, both sides exchanged views on regional and international issues, including cooperation within the ASEAN and APEC frameworks, combating transnational crime, and United Nations reform.

Thailand and Mexico have enjoyed cordial and close relations in various dimensions since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 28 August 1975 (marking the 50th anniversary in 2025). At present, Mexico is Thailand’s second-largest trading partner in Latin America, with total trade value amounting to USD 5.6 billion in 2024. Thailand and Mexico have also engaged in other areas of cooperation, including academic and cultural exchanges, with Mexico being a potential market for Thailand’s creative industries, as well as collaboration in multilateral fora.
