Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs meets with Ambassador of Guatemala to Thailand

On 13 August 2025, Mrs. Hataya Khusakul, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, met with H.E. Ms. Shirley Dennise Aguilar Barrera, Ambassador of Guatemala to Thailand, upon assuming office as Director-General.

Both sides welcomed the positive developments of Thailand-Guatemala relations and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, especially trade and investment, people-to-people contacts, and multilateral cooperation. They also expressed determination to work closely together to move forward the bilateral ties with the establishment of the Political Consultations mechanism, the appointment of new Honorary Consul of Thailand in Guatemala City, the opening of Honorary Consulate of Guatemala in Phuket.

In addition, the Director-General provided the Ambassador with the update on the Thailand-Cambodia border situation, including Thailand’s responses under the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (Ottawa Convention) to the landmine incidents involving Thai military personnel following the ceasefire agreement. She also emphasized Thailand’s commitment to resolving the situation peacefully through bilateral mechanisms. The Ambassador expressed her hope that the situation would be resolved by peaceful means.
