On 16 May 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a discussion with Mr. Khaled Ahmed El-Enany Ali Ezz, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on the occasion of his official visit to Thailand as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 14 - 17 May 2026.
 
Both sides welcomed the long-standing relations between Thailand and UNESCO. The Deputy Prime Minister assured the Director General of UNESCO of Thailand’s full support and strong commitment to enhance the good cooperation and shared priorities of Thailand and UNESCO, particularly on the preservation of cultural heritage. Both sides also discussed Thailand’s role in the UNESCO Executive Board for the term 2025 - 2029 and the possibility for Thailand to host the 2027 Global Education Meeting as well as exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including UNESCO reform.
 
Following the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister hosted a working lunch in honour of the UNESCO Director-General. H.E. Ms. Sabeeda Thaised, Minister of Culture, also attended the luncheon.
