On 15 February 2024, H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, delivered keynote remarks on “Thailand’s Foreign Policy under a Changing Global Political Context” at the “Global election year 2024: Thailand’s foreign policy formulation and implementation”, a seminar organised by the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Senate.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the importance of revitalising and reforming Thailand’s foreign policy through the implementation of “proactive diplomacy”. In doing so, Thailand would maintain clear and consistent positions on important global issues in order to further the country’s interests in fostering stability and security as well as securing economic benefits. Thailand must also advance a balanced and flexible foreign policy, maintain neutrality and friendly relations with all sides, and reach out to partners across the world to ensure that all countries can engage with Thailand. At the same time, Thailand will play a constructive role while promoting shared values and principles, which will help Thailand increase its role on international issues.

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasised that, in the current geopolitical context, Thailand must strengthen regional cooperation and maintain peace and stability in Southeast Asia. This would be essential for continued regional economic prosperity and growth, in order to attract more investment and relocation of production bases and support resilient supply chains. Thailand will work with ASEAN on the situation in Myanmar, through the Thai initiative of increasing humanitarian assistance to the affected people of Myanmar along the Thailand - Myanmar border. This initiative is supported by ASEAN and reflects Thailand’s commitment to promote regional peace, security, and prosperity.
