On 14 May 2026, Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, chaired a brainstorming session between Thai Embassies and Consulates-General in Europe and the Ministry of Defence to exchange views on promoting and expanding defence industry cooperation between Thailand and European countries. Also in attendance were Ms. Somrudee Poopornanake, Acting Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, and Lt. Gen. Tawan Tunkul, Chief of the Military Affairs Coordination Office to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with officials from both ministries.
Colonel Kampanart Satienpong, Director of the Defence Industry Promotion Division, Defence Industry and Energy Centre, Ministry of Defence, and Colonel Dr. Ampun Janpengpen, Deputy Director-General of the Defence Technology Institute (DTI) briefed the meeting on the current status and development of Thailand’s defence industry. The meeting exchanged views on ways to expand cooperation with various countries, particularly European countries with advanced defence industries and established standards under the NATO Codification System (NCS).
The meeting discussed increasing Thailand’s participation in the global defence industry supply chain, attracting foreign investment into Thailand’s defence sector, promoting joint ventures and technology transfer, and enhancing research and development. They also explored ways to strengthen cooperation in the defence industry between Thailand and European countries, encourage participation in defence industry exhibitions in both Thailand and Europe, and promote investment by European defence companies in Thailand’s future integrated defence industrial estate project.
