On 29 July 2021, H.E. Mr. Pirkka Tapiola, Ambassador of the European Union to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, to bid farewell at the end of his tenure.

Both sides discussed the challenges posed by the new wave of the COVID-19 infections in Thailand and stressed the importance of the post-COVID-19 socio-economic recovery where more collaboration with less conflict and confrontation is needed to tackle the common emerging non-traditional threats all countries face.

Thailand and the European Union will continue to work together on sustainability by strengthening public awareness of environmental issues in the recovery scheme. On this note, both sides also reaffirmed the shared commitment to reinvigorating all aspects of bilateral relations, including through concluding the Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) and revitalising Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. Both sides will also enhance cooperation for the stability and security of the Southeast Asian region.
