MFA continues to clarify facts on the Thailand - Cambodia border situation through diplomatic channels and key international organizations

During 30 July - 1 August 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has continued to clarify facts on the Thailand - Cambodia border situation through diplomatic channels and key international organizations, as follows:


1. Ms. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, reaffirmed Thailand’s adherence to the UN Charter, international humanitarian principles, and the Helsinki Final Act in Helsinki+50 Conference under the framework of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Helsinki. She provided clarification on Cambodia’s unprovoked and indiscriminate attacks against Thai civilians, which compelled Thailand to exercise its right to self-defence under international law. She also reiterated Thailand’s commitment to the ceasefire agreement and readiness to utilise existing bilateral mechanisms to resolve the situation.


2. H.E. Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Ambassador of Thailand to Belgium, had a meeting with H.E. Mr. Andries Gryffroy, First Vice President of the Belgian Senate and Chairman of the Belgian - Thai Bilateral Section of the Belgian Inter-Parliamentary Union in Brussels to stress that Thailand did not initiate the conflict but was compelled to respond to protect civilians and territorial integrity, reaffirming Thailand’s commitment to peaceful means and international law. The Belgian side expressed appreciation for Thailand’s updates and conveyed his hope that the situation would de-escalate and return to normalcy.


3. H.E. Ms. Nitivadee Manitkul, Ambassador of Thailand to Norway, had a meeting with Mr. Mattis Raustol, Deputy Director-General, Regional Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, to emphasise that Thailand’s measures were conducted in self-defence under international law to safeguard sovereignty and protect civilian lives. The Norwegian side expressed understanding and supported resolution efforts in line with international law. The Ambassador also addressed misleading media reports in Norway, which may have led to misunderstandings. Accurate information has already been circulated to promote better public understanding.

 

The Ministry’s continued multilateral and bilateral efforts to clarify Thailand - Cambodia border situation demonstrate Thailand’s commitment to transparency and principled diplomacy, aimed at de-escalating border tensions, strengthening international understanding, and seeking a peaceful solution.
