On 23 July 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Miyaji Takuma, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2025 (HLPF) at the United Nations Headquarters.

Both sides discussed the promotion of trade, investment and business activities in the region, and agreed to further strengthen cooperation in various dimensions, especially in the area of disaster risk reduction. The Thai side expressed appreciation for Japan’s support following the earthquakes in Thailand and Myanmar in March 2025, recognizing Japan’s knowledge and best practices in disaster management.

Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to work closely within the United Nations and other multilateral frameworks. The Thai side took this opportunity to extend an invitation to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan to attend the 20th Ministerial Meeting of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), to be hosted by Thailand in September 2025.
