Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs

On 3 November 2025, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, discussed with the Hon. Michael George DeSombre, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, to further strengthen the Thailand - U.S. alliance and strategic partnership in the areas of security, economy, and trade negotiations. They also exchanged views on the role of the U.S. in the region, particularly efforts to address issues between Thailand and Cambodia following the signing of the Joint Declaration between the Prime Minister of Cambodia and the Prime Minister of Thailand on the outcomes of their meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation, recognizing that Thailand is the oldest and one of the most important U.S. allies in Asia, with diplomatic relations spanning over 192 years. They also underscored their friendship and partnership in advancing bilateral, regional, and multilateral cooperation, and agreed to promote high-level exchanges, cooperation to address challenges and threats, such as online scams, as well as to strengthen economic cooperation and development at regional and subregional levels. The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s firm commitment to implementing the Joint Declaration between Thailand and Cambodia, and shared Thailand’s approach in promoting cooperation for the mutual benefit of the region.

The Hon. Michael George DeSombre also paid solemn tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in the Grand Palace and signed the book of condolence. He previously served as the U.S. Ambassador to Thailand from 2020 to 2021.
