On 16 February 2024, H.E. General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, and H.E. Mrs. Linda Hurley, spouse, travelled to Chiang Rai Province, where they were received by the Governor of Chiang Rai Province and other Thai dignitaries.

On this occasion, the Governor-General and his spouse visited the Doi Tung Development Project (DTDP), initiated by HRH Princess Srinagarindra (The Princess Mother). DTDP aims to address social issues in the area in a holistic manner through environmental restoration, vocational skills training, and creating a sustainable source of income for the community.

In addition, the Governor-General and his spouse also visited the Citizen Science for Climate Mitigation and Adaptation in the Ing River Basin Project, Khun Tan District, Chiang Rai Province, a project supported by the Government of Australia. In this connection, the Governor-General and his spouse were briefed on measures to address climate change adaptation and water management of riverside communities in Chiang Rai Province. Later that day, the Governor-General and his spouse also paid a visit to Wat Rong Khun, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province.
