Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs launches Thailand’s candidature to the Human Rights Council for the term 2025-2027

On 21September 2023, H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, hosted the launching reception of Thailand’s candidature to the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) for the term 2025-2027. The event was attended by Ministers, ambassadors and high-level representatives from more than 100 UN Member States.

In his remarks, DPM/FM highlighted the Government’s commitment to advancing democracy and human rights, as well as promoting and protecting civil and political rights while ensuring progressive realization of economic, social and cultural rights and protecting those in vulnerable situations. He also highlighted Thailand’s achievement so far in conducting policies such as Universal Health Coverage and Education for All and expressed commitment to do more.

In addition, DPM/FM expressed Thailand’s aspiration to serve in the HRC to contribute to its important work in steering global human rights discourse and norms as well as policy shaping, and to strive to maximize the impact of the works of the HRC on the ground, in the context of fast changing world with many emerging challenges such as international conflicts, pandemic, climate change and threats from emerging technologies. He also expressed Thailand’s ambition to be part of the global endeavor to address human rights challenges of our time and to take on human rights issues for future generations.

DPM/FM also highlighted Thailand’s track record of being a bridge-builder and a constructive partner which would help bring about synergies and the needed solidarity to the Council and expressed Thailand’s readiness to work with all countries and partners.
