Director-General of the International Organisations Department meets with the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances

On 29 April 2025, Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organisations, held a discussion with Ms. Gabriella Citroni, Chair of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) and its members, on the occasion of the latter’s visit to Thailand for the 136th Meeting of the Working Group in Bangkok.

Both sides exchanged views on issues related to enforced or involuntary disappearances and collaboration on the implementation of Thailand’s obligation under the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disapperance (ICPPED). Afterwards, on 30 April 2025, the WGEID also discussed with members of the National Committee on the Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearance including the representatives from the Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Rights and Liberties Protection Department, Ministry of Justice, Office of the Attorney General, the Royal Thai Police, the Department of Special Investigation, Department of Provincial Administration, Ministry of Interior and Central Institute of Forensic Science of Thailand to exchange views on developments in domestic legislation, international cooperation, and good practices on the implementation of the ICPPED.

The WGEID also congratulated Thailand on its ratification of the ICPPED, as well as the adoption of dedicated legislation on the topic, which will become a good reference for the Asia-Pacific region, and on being elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the term 2025-2027.
