On 28 April 2025, H.E. Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Benjamin Sukanjanajtee, Director-General of the Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs, delivered remarks at the opening session of the “Workshop: Resolving Investment Disputes at ICSID,” held at the World Bank (Thailand office), as well as welcomed Ms. Martina Polasek, Vice-President of the World Bank Group and Secretary-General of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), who was a guest speaker at the event. This Workshop brought together over 40 representatives from various relevant government agencies.
The Workshop, co-organised by the World Bank (Thailand office) and the Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs, aimed to foster constructive dialogue on the benefits of becoming a party to ICSID and encourage greater engagement between the Thai officials and key representatives from the World Bank Group. ICSID is an international organization and one of the five organs of the World Bank Group, which has extensive experience and broad recognition from the international community for providing dispute settlement services between States and foreign investors through conciliation and arbitration.
During the Workshop, the Secretary to FM also held a bilateral meeting with Ms. Martina Polasek to discuss Thailand’s investment protection regime and the possibility of Thailand becoming a party to the ICSID Convention.
