On 20 September 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, in collaboration with the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, organized the 5th Legal Consultation Program for Thais in Malaysia in 2025 at Corus Hotel KLCC, Kuala Lumpur. Around 100 Thai volunteers and Thai nationals from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Johor, Penang, Perlis, Kedah, Sarawak, and Sabah participated in the event, including those joining via Facebook Live of the Embassy.
 
The program provided participants with knowledge on three key areas: (1) Malaysian law on human trafficking, protection of rights, and remedies for Thai victims – presented by Ms. Yoges M Verasuntharam, the project’s legal advisor, (2) Identification of human trafficking victims and referral mechanisms for First Responders, presented by Mr. Issara Kattiyawara, Director of Policy and Academic Division, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security of Thailand and (3) Essential Thai laws for Thais in Malaysia, presented by Mr. Lersak Duksukkaew, Expert Public Prosecutor, Office of International Peoples’ Rights Protection, Office of the Attorney-General, covering foreigners’ rights and obligations in Malaysia, military service, and inheritance management.
 
On this occasion, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, delivered the closing remarks, expressing appreciation to the speakers, volunteers, and participants, and reaffirming the policy of “Proactive People Diplomacy.” She highlighted the Embassy’s achievements in the Fiscal Year 2025, including providing legal consultation for Thais in Malaysia, protecting Thai nationals, visiting Thai inmates in Malaysian prisons, and concrete cooperation with the Malaysian Prison Department on inmate welfare. In 2026, the Embassy will continue to implement the program to ensuring that Thai nationals in Malaysia have access to comprehensive consular services and legal assistance.
