Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs attends memorial ceremony for Thai worker who lost life following the 7 October 2023 incident

On 23 October 2025, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Bancha Yuenyong-chongcharoen, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs, together with H.E. Ms. Treenuch Thienthong, Minister of Labour, and H.E. Ms. Alona Fisher-Kamm, Ambassador-designate of Israel to Thailand, attended the memorial ceremony for the late Mr. Sonthaya Oakkharasri, who lost his life following the 7 October 2023 incident. The ceremony was held at Suvarnabhumi Airport before the body was sent to his hometown in Nong Bua Lamphu Province for religious rites.
Earlier, on 22 October 2025, H.E. Mr. Boonyarit Vichienpanya, Ambassador of Thailand to Israel, together with H.E. Mr. Yariv Levin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice of Israel, and high-level Israeli officials, participated in a memorial ceremony for Mr. Sontaya at the airport in Israel. Deputy Prime Minister Levin expressed his condolences to Mr. Sontaya’s family and appreciation to the Royal Thai Embassy for its continued coordination in assisting affected Thai workers and Thai hostages over the past two years. The Thai Ambassador also conveyed his appreciation to the Government of Israel for the assistance with the hostage situation, in particular to the President of Israel who personally sent a message of condolence to Mr. Sontaya’s mother.
