On 11 August 2026, the Department of International Organizations, in collaboration with the United Nations in Thailand, organized a study visit to the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) in Bangkok for Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) personnel, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Thailand’s membership in the United Nations. Over 60 members of the Ministry’s staff from various departments participated in the visit.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, highlighted Thailand’s vital role as the host country for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and over 44 UN entities, reflecting the country’s steadfast commitment to supporting multilateralism. Ms. Michaela Friberg-Storey, United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRC) in Thailand, emphasized the long-standing cooperation with the MFA in driving sustainable development in Thailand and beyond, including through South-South Cooperation.

During the visit, participants attended briefings by representatives from the Department of International Organizations, the Office of the UNRC, and the ESCAP Secretariat covering the history and work of the United Nations as well as Thailand’s leading role in national, regional, and global efforts towards sustainable development. Participants also toured the UNCC’s solar rooftop, seeing first-hand how the UN walks the talk by operationalizing sustainable building and environmental management practices.
