On 3 July 2025, Mr. Chulvat Narinthrangura, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), officially handed over the Parabolic Greenhouse Solar Dryer (Parabola Dome Dryer) under the Thailand – Morocco Sustainable Community Development Project to Cadi Ayyad University and Tiwizi Association. The handover was received on the Moroccan side by Mr. Mohamed Hafidi, Vice President, Cadi Ayyad University. The ceremony was also attended by H.E. Mr. Fabio Chinda, Ambassador of Thailand to Morocco, Mr. Hassan Edderjoun, President of Tiwizi Association, as well as Thai experts from Silpakorn University.

The objective of this project aims to improve the quality of life and strengthen food security among local farmers in Morocco through the application of renewable energy technology, specifically the Parabola Dome Dryer, which can help increase the value of local agricultural products and generate income. The use of solar drying also aligns with traditional practices in rural areas around Marrakesh, where fruits such as dates, apricots, and prunes are commonly sun-dried.

The handover of the Parabola Dome Dryer, an innovation developed and manufactured by Silpakorn University, represents a practical exchange of knowledge and best practices. It also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the areas of Food Security and Sustainable Community Development, and exemplifies the spirit of South–South Cooperation.

The project was initiated in 2017, when the President of the University Council of Cadi Ayyad, expressed interest in Thailand’s solar dryer technology, following a 2016 international conference in Japan on renewable energy for agricultural drying, where the university’s research team learned about Silpakorn University’s innovations in solar drying technology. A formal cooperation request was later submitted to the Thai side.

Although the project experienced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the earthquake near Marrakesh in 2023, the strong commitment and close cooperation between the two sides ensured its successful completion and the tangible delivery of appropriate technology to the local community. This achievement reflects the enduring development partnership between Thailand and Morocco in advancing sustainable development.
