On March 10, 2026, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, together with officials and staff of the Royal Thai Consulate-General, attended the International Women’s Day 2026 celebration organized by the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SoFC) in collaboration with the Consulates General of India and Kazakhstan in New York. This annual event honors women and women’s group from various countries for their leadership and meaningful contributions to their communities abroad. Members of the diplomatic corps and representatives from the New York City Mayor’s Office for International Affairs were also in attendance.
On this occasion, the Royal Thai Consulate General nominated the "Anuruk Thai Dance Association of New York" to receive a Certificate of Recognition for its dedication in preserving and promoting Thai cultural heritage abroad, in line with the vision of its founder and former President, Mrs. Sirinard Davidowitz. Through Thai traditional dance, the association helps introduce Thailand to international audiences while also promoting the health, well-being, and quality of life of seniors in New York City. Mrs. Kanchana Barker, the current President, received the Certificate of Recognition on behalf of the association from the President of the SoFC.
The Royal Thai Consulate-General extends its warm congratulations to the association and to all honorees of the SoFC International Women’s Day 2026. The Consulate also wishes to thank Paleewong Trading Co., Inc. for generously supporting the reception following the ceremony by providing Thai beer beverages for the celebration.
In 2024, the Royal Thai-Consulate General nominated Ms. Suchitra Paleewong, the President of the Thai Cultural Center of New York, and in 2025, nominated Associate Professor Pittaya Paladroi-Shane, a Thai language lecturer at the International Study Center, Ohio University. This year marks the first time a nomination has been submitted on behalf of a Thai women’sassociation.
