On 22 September 2021, H.E. Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister, delivered a pre-recorded statement at the Global COVID-19 Summit:
Ending the Pandemic and Building Back Better. The Summit was chaired by President Joe Biden of the United States, and with participation of several Heads of States and Heads of Governments, high-level representatives from various international organizations and multinational companies.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s strong commitment to support global efforts to end the pandemic and better prepare for future health threats by pledging to achieve 3 main targets. First, Thailand will vaccinate at least 70% of the population by the end of this year, covering every person in Thailand regardless of nationality and status. Second, Thailand supports cooperation to boost production capacity of medical supplies and pharmaceutical products to protect people from the pandemic and accelerate a return to normalcy. Thailand has provided medical and technical assistance to over 10 countries, including neigbouring countries, and commits to do more. The Prime Minister also thanks the U.S. and friends who extended assistance to Thailand during this challenging time. Lastly, Thailand supports efforts to further strengthen pandemic preparedness and response at all levels including through the on-going process of developing a Pandemic Treaty. Currently, Thailand is upgrading the Communicable Diseases Act to be in closer alignment with the International Health Regulations (IHR) and further promoting global health security.

The Global COVID-19 Summit was held virtually during the High-Level Week of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in
New York. The Summit was an initiative of the U.S. President aimed at galvanising the support of world leaders and their commitment to take actions to overcome and to build back better off this pandemic, which has had wide-ranging negative impacts worldwide for almost 2 years.
