On 17 July 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in a bilateral meeting between H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister, and H.E. Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, at Shanghai World Reception Hall Center on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, the People’s Republic of China.

Both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including wellness tourism, healthcare, food security, hospitality, artificial intelligence (AI), energy, and rare earth minerals. The Prime Minister proposed that both sides continue close consultations to further advance cooperation in these areas, and also expressed appreciation to Kazakhstan for its support of Thailand's initiative to launch negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Thailand and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which would help expand opportunities for trade, investment, and economic growth for the mutual benefit of the peoples of both countries. The Prime Minister also thanked the President of Kazakhstan for the invitation to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan in 2027, which will mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Kazakhstan, and extended an invitation to the President to pay an official visit to Thailand.

Both sides also agreed to support the expansion of air connectivity through additional flight routes to promote tourism and strengthen people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. They reaffirmed the importance of an open, rules-based multilateral system. Thailand stands ready to work closely with Kazakhstan in key international cooperation frameworks and supports Kazakhstan's greater engagement with ASEAN, as well as enhanced cooperation on issues of global importance.
