On 26 March 2024, Mr. Phasit Chudabuddhi, Consul-General of Thailand to Kota Bharu, paid a courtesy call on Pol. Lt. Col. Wannapong Kotcharag, the newly appointed Secretary-General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC), at the SBPAC Headquarters in Yala Province. Both sides exchanged views on the current and future cooperation between the Consulate-General and SBPAC, notably preparations for an upcoming DNA testing programme scheduled in May 2024 at the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kota Bharu. The programme is aimed at helping Thais residing in Malaysia to register themselves in the Thai registration system to pave the way for them to gain access to basic social services provided by the Thai Government. Moreover, other areas of cooperation were also discussed such as SBPAC’s support in health care provision for Thai nationals in Kelantan and Terengganu during mobile consular services organized by the Consulate-General, development of cooking skill for Thai chefs working in Tom Yum Kung restaurants in Malaysia and promotion of peaceful co-existence in a multicultural society.
