Ambassador of Thailand to Norway had a meeting with Director of Pro Center and representatives from Pro Center’s partner organizations, namely Nadheim and PION, to exchange views on how to help Thai women in Norway

On 9 March 2023, H.E. Ms. Vimolbajra Ruksakiati, Ambassador of Thailand to Norway, had a meeting with Ms. Bjorg Norli, Director of Pro Center, and representatives from Pro Center’s partner organizations, namely Nadheim and PION, to exchange views on how to help Thai women in Norway, especially those who work in Thai massage parlors with concealed sex trade and forced prostitution.

Representatives from Pro Center, Nadheim, and PION explained what they do to help Thai women, ranging from giving counseling, providing information and training courses on necessary knowledge in order to integrate well into the Norwegian society and be aware of their rights, as well as providing health care services, especially on sexual and reproductive health. At Pro Center, there is a meeting place called “living room”, where counseling, guidance and legal advice, and food are provided. These organizations, especially Nadheim, assist Thai women to cope with social challenges they are facing such as in finding and filling applications for ordinary jobs in Norway. Nadheim also offers “the Norwegian class” to prevent women from feeling isolated and depressed as well as assists women in improving their mental health. Nadheim also plan to address addictive problems in Norway such as gambling and drugs.

Ms. Shantana Berg, President of the Thai Women’s Association in Norway, presented the project on upgrading the standard and empowerment of Thai massage in Norway, a joint initiative between the Embassy and the Thai Women’s Association in Norway, which will be officially launched in May 2023. The three organizations supported this project and agreed to the Ambassador’s proposal to form a partnership collaboration between the Embassy, the Pro Center, Nadheim, and PION, with the Thai Women’s Association in Norway to further enhance cooperation on information campaign in order to more effectively reach out to Thai community in Norway.

Ambassador Ruksakiati also invited all representatives to participate in an event to promote Thai food and traditional Thai massage for the Female Ambassadors in Oslo at the Embassy in September 2023. This event will promote Thainess as well as ethical Thai massage in Norway by means of women-to-women empowerment.
