On 11 July 2022, H.E. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China, visited the ASEAN Secretariat and met with all Permanent Representatives of ASEAN Countries. H.E. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to ASEAN, was present in the meeting and joined the photo session with H.E. Wang Yi. Afterwards H.E. Wang Yi delivered the Regional Policy Speech to the diplomatic corps on the topic of “Upholding Peace,Development, Independence and Inclusiveness And Renewing the First Commitment to Open Regionalism”
The policy speech by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China marked a milestone for longstanding ASEAN-China relations, which has made remarkable progress in all areas of cooperation. Last year ASEAN and China agreed to establish Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. During the speech, H.E. Wang Yi reiterated China’s commitment in supporting ASEAN centrality and ASEAN’s role in driving various regional cooperation and reducing development gap. China is ready to work with ASEAN in the implementation of the RCEP Agreement, discussion to upgrade the ASEAN-China FTA, and cooperation under the Bio-Circular-Green Economy Model, as well as the promotion of low-carbon development.
