On 3 September 2025, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call by H.E. Mr. Zhang Jianwei, the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Thailand on the occasion of his assumption of duty.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the strong and dynamic bilateral relations between Thailand and China, which have advanced steadily despite evolving domestic and international contexts. They noted the broad scope of cooperation and frequent high-level visits, particularly in 2025, which marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. As Thailand and China are serving as Co-Chairs of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC), both sides also discussed preparation for the 5th MLC Leaders' Meeting, to be held in late 2025, with a shared commitment to ensuring its success and tangible outcomes.

Ambassador Zhang reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Thailand at the bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels, while working together to play a constructive role in addressing regional challenges. On the border tensions between Thailand and Cambodia, he stressed that as a close friend of both nations, China welcomes the ceasefire and the positive outcomes of the Extraordinary Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting held in Malaysia. He also reitereated that China supports both sides in using existing bilateral mechanisms to peacefully resolve the dispute and restore mutual trust and confidence.
