Mrs. Ana Lucy Gentil Cabral Petersen, Ambassador of Brazil to Thailand, during the farewell call, reviewing over 60-year cordial relations between two countries and promoting trade and investment, people linkage through sports and tourism, the post-COVID-19 cooperation and ASEAN issues.

On 30 July 2021, H.E. Mrs. Ana Lucy Gentil Cabral Petersen, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Thailand, paid a farewell call to H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his appreciation to the Ambassador for her active services during her tenure of over three years, which contributed to the enhancement of Thai-Brazilian relations, despite the challenges of geographical distance.

The two sides praised cordial Thai-Brazilian bilateral relations, which commemorated the 60th anniversary of their establishment of diplomatic relations in 2019. The Thai-Brazilian cooperation also advanced in all dimensions whereby both sides expressed their willingness to enhance cooperation in the post-COVID-19 economic recovery, trade, tourism and sports. Brazil has expressed interest in Muay Thai and Sepak Takraw, while Thailand has a keen interest in Brazilian football. Thailand, moreover, supports Brazil in its cooperation with ASEAN and under the United Nations frameworks.

Brazil is a country of great cooperation potential with Thailand in Latin America and the Caribbean. It ranks as Thailand’s top trading partner in the region and constitutes a large market with the population of over 213 million while abundant with natural resources and agricultural raw materials, including oil, sugar canes and soybeans. Brazil’s advancement in agricultural technology, including its ethanol production from sugarcane, provides an opportunity for knowledge sharing with Thailand that will benefit green and sustainable development in line with Thailand’s national agenda on Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) Model.
