Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs discussed the celebration to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Thailand-Chile diplomatic relations during a courtesy call by Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Thailand. Both sides also agreed to further enhance cooperation on trade and investment, and promote cooperation in the areas concerning the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model under Thailand’s APEC host year in 2022.

On 1 February 2022, H.E. Mr. Alex Geiger Soffia, Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Thailand, paid an introductory call on H.E. Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs. They discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly trade and investment with the aim of rebooting and rejuvenating the economy in the post-COVID-19 era. They also discussed technical cooperation, such as the quinoa planting project, and activities to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Chile this year, whereby the Thai side will host the 6th Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries as part of the commemorative activities.

Both sides also stressed cooperation in the areas concerning the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model, which is the overarching theme for Thailand’s APEC host year in 2022, with a view to achieving the climate action goals and attaining a resilient and sustainable post-pandemic recovery. They also reiterated their determination to further promote multilateral cooperation under the frameworks of APEC and the Pacific Alliance for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
