On 25 September 2026, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the Fiftieth Annual Meeting of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Group of 77, held during the UNGA81 High-level Week at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The meeting was chaired by H.E. Mr. Mario Lubetkin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, under the theme "The Global South and the Future of Multilateralism”. Member States underscored the importance of financing for development and the Sevilla Commitment, reform of the international financial architecture, the UN80 Initiative, multilateralism, South-South cooperation, and climate change. The meeting also adopted the 2026 Ministerial Declaration and endorsed Rwanda as Chair of the Group for 2027.

The Vice Minister delivered a statement highlighting Thailand’s support for UN reform under the UN80 Initiative, with the emphasis on regional reset for more operational efficiency in light of Thailand's role as host of ESCAP. He also underscored Thailand's hosting of the 2026 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings as an opportunity to support the rebalancing of the international financial architecture, as well as reinforce solidarity through inclusive partnerships, including ASEAN, BRICS, OECD accession, South-South and Triangular Cooperation, and the Thailand-Africa Initiative.

Earlier this week, on 23 September 2026, Ms. Pornpimol Sugandhavanija, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs, attended the Thirty-eighth Annual Meeting of Senior Officials of the Group of 77 and followed up on the Report of the Forty-first Meeting of the Committee of Experts of the Perez-Guerrero Trust Fund for South-South Cooperation (PGTF). Notably, one Thai project proposal was approved for financial support under the Fund, namely the “Food Safety and Security Using Appropriate Innovative Technology” project submitted by Chiang Mai University.
