On 25 October 2025, the Thai delegation participated in the Signing Ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime and the High-level Conference, co-hosted by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Government of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam at the National Convention Center in Hanoi, Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
H.E. Ms. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador of Thailand to Viet Nam, and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, joined the Thai delegation led by H.E. Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, in the signing of the Convention. The Minister also delivered a national statement reaffirming the Thai Government’s strong commitment to combating cybercrime and online scams — Thailand’s key priorities — and to enhancing cooperation with all countries in addressing cybercrime. The convention was signed by 68 States and the European Union. Participating ASEAN Member States included Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Viet Nam.
The United Nations Convention against Cybercrime is the first international legally-binding instrument under the UN framework dedicated to countering cybercrime. It covers cybercrime, online child sexual exploitation, and the non-consensual distribution of intimate images. The Convention is the result of the negotiations under the Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes.
