On 29 January 2024, H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat – AMM Retreat in Luang Prabang.

Both sides discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral relations of the two countries. In this regard, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son accepted Deputy Prime Minister Parnpree’s invitation to pay an official visit to Thailand and to co-chair the 5th Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting. The visit will be part of the preparation for the official visit of the Thai Prime Minister to Viet Nam and the 4th Joint Cabinet Retreat (JCR) in May 2024, during which both leaders are expected to officially announce the upgrade of the Thailand - Viet Nam relations to ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’.

Both sides also discussed ways to promote closer tourism cooperation between Thailand, Viet Nam, Lao PDR and Cambodia.
